About Me

I'm Jorge, a poet, storyteller, and wanderer of holy ground.

I was born in Costa Rica to a Guatemalan mother and a Nicaraguan father, and I grew up in Edmonton, where my family landed in 1992 with little more than suitcases and each other. I was raised in a tiny Spanish church kept alive by the women's Saturday-night pupusa sales. Those women taught me my first theology: that love shows up as food, and faith as showing up.

Since then I have lived seven years in Germany, learned four languages, and am now stumbling through Italian. I have been a business student, a blinds installer, and a communication coach.

These days I am a chaplain at CapitalCare, where I walk with older adults, their families and care teams through aging, dementia, dying and grief. I hold a Master of Theological Studies.

I write about the fragile, beautiful moments that break us open and stitch us back together. About faith meeting failure, silence becoming sacred, and love, however bruised, still daring to speak.

I live in Edmonton with my wife Janine and our son Emilio, who arrived in April 2026 after a long road and taught me that birth is wild.
